Reiki – an ongoing journey

Growing up in the UK, I followed my passion and travelled the world arriving in Australia in 1985. Cairns and its beautiful reef and rainforest captivated me, so I emigrated here in 1992. I’ve never looked back!

Usui Shiki Ryoho

My interest in Reiki and Journey work started in 2003. I had been diagnosed with a serious medical condition and was looking for a solution that would work with modern medicine and support me to heal naturally.

After making a full recovery I went on to qualify as a Journey Practitioner in 2004 and as a Reiki Master in Usui Shiki Ryoho in 2007.  I began teaching Reiki and facilitating treatments from my rainforest home in Cairns.

As this path of self development changed my life I realised I wanted to  share my knowledge and support others on their own healing journey.

Usui Reiki Ryoho

Eager to continue my studies in 2009 I attended a reiki retreat with Frans and Bronwyn Steine of the International House of Reiki. I knew immediately they were the right teachers to advance my reiki knowledge and practice.

Frans and Bronwyn wanted to discover how Reiki was originally taught and had travelled to Japan to uncover the roots of the system. I was fascinated by the Japanese reiki lineage and in June 2010 I completed Shinpiden Level III Reiki Teacher training. I soon began incorporating their work into my own Reiki classes and treatments.

Reiki is about balancing the mind, body and energy — and traditional Japanese Reiki embraces this balance — giving you clarity, focus and wellness. I also love how this system of reiki is all about self development and provides you with practical tools to overcome daily challenges so you can live the life you want to lead. This has been my personal reiki experience.

Frans continues to study with Japanese teachers and shares his knowledge in his classes and retreats. His teachings have been inspirational and have made a big difference to my own understanding and practice. Since 2009 I have continued attending reiki intensives and teaching sessions with Frans in Australia and overseas.

Last year I visited Japan and to gain a deeper understanding of the culture and meditation practices that still survive there today. It was an incredible trip and the knowledge I gained I now bring to my classes.

Meditation

A regular meditation practice makes a huge difference to our lives. It makes us mindful, creates awareness and helps us uncover the truth of who we are.

I have been running mindfulness meditation classes in Cairns for 8 years but my interest in meditation dates back to the late 80s when I traveled through China. I visited temples where monks were chanting and the serenity and peaceful disposition of those men made a lasting impression on me.

Years later, when friends shared their experiences after a 10 day meditation retreat I was inspired to learn. I travelled to Thailand to study at a established Vipassana centre.   Back then in Australia I developed my own practice — continuing my studies with different teachers in a range of disciplines.

Developing a daily meditation practice is (for me) essential in this fast-paced busy world, so I want to make meditation accessible to anyone. The techniques I teach in my classes are easy to follow and can be practiced at home (or anywhere).

Yoga

Yoga is the most recent addition to my spiritual path and practice. In February 2017 I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Denise Payne, One Song Yoga in Bali. Denise is a dedicated teacher who incorporates grounding, empowerment and self development into her programs — all complimenting what I teach in Reiki and meditation.

My daily yoga practice has certainly improved my overall strength and flexibility and I enjoy teaching gentle yoga both in private classes and on Retreat days.  Stronger yoga sessions are also available for private students.

Rainforest Reiki

Rainforest Reiki is my beautiful home located in Bayview Heights, Cairns —  surrounded by tall trees, a permaculture garden and small paths that connect the different contemplation areas.   Since facilitating my first reiki treatments back in 2010 it has evolved into the perfect place to run reiki courses, retreat days, meditation classes and yoga sessions.

Retreat accommodation is available if you would like to come and stay. There is a large dedicated yoga and meditation area and also other quiet spaces for reflection and contemplation.

I look forward to welcoming you.

Next Reiki Steps

My Reiki journey started with a single Reiki treatment and continues now as a teacher and daily practitioner. Essentially Reiki encompasses everything that touches our lives — our choices, our relationships, our health, our wellbeing and how we treat the planet.

Does this sound like a life you’ve dreamed of? Why not get in touch for a reiki treatment, or more information about how you could incorporate reiki, meditation, and mindfulness into your daily routines.
