One of the questions I’m asked quite often is, “How do I know if I’m ready to learn Reiki?”
The truth is, there isn’t a test you have to pass or a particular type of person who is “meant” to learn Reiki.
Over the years I’ve taught people from all walks of life—teachers, nurses, tradies, retirees, office workers, parents and university students. Some had experienced Reiki many times before. Others had never even had a treatment.
If you’re wondering whether Reiki might be right for you, here are a few signs that you may be ready to begin.
1. You’re Curious About Reiki
Sometimes curiosity is enough.
Many of my students simply wanted to understand what Reiki was all about. They weren’t looking to change their lives overnight—they just felt drawn to learn something new.
Curiosity is often where every new journey begins.
2. You’re Looking for More Calm in Your Life
Modern life can be incredibly busy.
Many people come to Reiki because they’re searching for something that encourages them to slow down, breathe a little deeper and reconnect with themselves.
Learning Reiki also introduces you to meditation practices that you can continue long after the course has finished.
3. You’d Like a Simple Way to Care for Yourself
One of the things I love most about Reiki is that it isn’t just something you receive from another practitioner.
From your very first course, you’ll learn how to practice Reiki for yourself at home. Many students find that self-treatment becomes a regular part of their daily routine.
4. You Enjoy Helping Other People
Some students enrol because they’d like to support family members or close friends or their beloved pets.
Others simply enjoy caring for people and want another gentle way to help those around them.
You don’t have to be planning a professional Reiki practice for this to be worthwhile.
5. You’ve Had a Reiki Treatment and Want to Learn More
This is one of the most common reasons people join my courses.
After experiencing Reiki for themselves, they naturally become curious about how it works and how they can continue practicing it in their own lives.
6. You’re Open to Learning Something New
You don’t need any previous experience.
You don’t need to know how to meditate.
You don’t need special gifts or psychic abilities.
All you need is an open mind and a willingness to learn.
7. You Like Learning in Small, Supportive Groups
I deliberately keep my classes small, with no more than four students.
That allows everyone plenty of time to ask questions, practise the techniques and learn at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
8. You’re Looking for Something Meaningful
Many people reach a point where they want to spend more time doing things that genuinely enrich their lives.
Learning Reiki isn’t about adding another item to your to-do list. For many students, it’s about creating space for personal growth and quiet reflection.
9. You’d Like to Meet Like-Minded People
One of the lovely things about learning Reiki is meeting people who share a genuine interest in personal growth, wellbeing and helping others.
Although everyone comes to Reiki for their own reasons, it’s not uncommon for students to discover they have more in common than they expected. Conversations flow naturally, experiences are shared, and many people leave the course feeling they’ve made new friendships as well as learned a new skill.
Because I limit my classes to just four participants, there’s plenty of opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
10. You Keep Coming Back to the Idea
Sometimes people tell me they’ve been thinking about learning Reiki for months—or even years.
Life gets busy, and it’s easy to keep putting it off.
If you’ve found yourself returning to the idea time and again, perhaps it’s simply time to take the next step.
Perhaps You’re More Ready Than You Think
You don’t need to have all the answers before learning Reiki.
You don’t need experience, special knowledge or a particular belief system.
If you’re curious, willing to learn and feel drawn to explore traditional Japanese Reiki, that is more than enough.
I’d love to welcome you to one of my upcoming Level 1 Reiki courses here at Rainforest Reiki. If the scheduled dates don’t suit, I also offer private in-home Reiki training throughout the greater Cairns region.
Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be here to help you take that first step.
